Regarding New Asian-Pacific Report: Obesity=Cancer
New reports in the Asian-Pacific indicate that there is a link between obesity and cancer. The news so far generated by one reporter focuses mostly on this Eastern location.
However, it is safe to assume that if Asian people have an increased risk of cancer as a result of being overweight or obese, than maybe this is the case in other places in the world. This is such a new study so many of the results are still very inconclusive.
It does seem to line up with logic though as far as the typical health news pertaining to obese people. They are often prone to all kinds of diseases more so than the average person who is of ideal or acceptable weight.
This does not mean the reverse is also false though. Fit and trim people can also diet of cancer. However, as long as a skinny person is not underweight it can be assumed from recent studies that chances are not nearly as likely.
Research Statistics
This is a very small intro to some of the statistics generated from reports from this Asian-Pacific study which was published online in June of 2010. This information is based on 424, 500 adults that live in Asia, Australia, and New Zealand (which proves that people of all skin color are most likely affected):
The total amount of obese people in these regions combined is 6%.
The number of overweight people in these regions combined is 21%.
The two above groups are more likely to diet from cancer than normal-weight people.
Exclusions from this study include lung and upper digestive tract cancers.
Obese people are more likely to diet from colon, rectal, ovarian, cervical, and prostate cancers; more likely to die from leukemia.
Obese women specifically are more prone to death from breast cancer.
Relative risk studies indicate that cancer mortality rates in Asian populations is about the same as in Western countries who have a BMI that makes them obese.
