There are many issues pertaining to obese that need to be addressed. One of those of course is the affect it can have on your physical health but your emotional/mental health is also a main concern.
Effects on the Mind and Emotions
Obesity and overweight appearances probably has the mot effect on children than it does on adults. However, both children and adults share similar feelings of insecurity and worthlessness.
They often feel very unattractive. They also feel very unloved and rejected. However, this is not just a handicap that is limited to playground teasing.
When they grow to be adults they might experience social anxiety and/or pressure on the job. Maybe they will not succeed as much as the next person because of how they feel on the inside and it reflects how they perform at work.
The other possibility is that overweight and obese people might be overly-driven at work. This is to make up for how they feel inadequate socially and have very few friends. They may also be single for long periods of time and/or settle into a less than satisfying marriage where their partner does not appreciate them.
They might get the raises and the promotions at times and even the envy of their peers. However, this is not always the case.
Sometimes they are passed up because they are not fit or shaped in the right way. This is often the case if they are working for a huge corporation for which image is very important. This may also be the case if they are in the field of politics in which physical appearance is a must.
Obesity affects the mind and emotions at any age. Severely overweight people may be discriminated against at times too. They also might experience problems everywhere they go related to trying to fit in.
For instance, the seats at movie theatres might be too small for them. Either that or they might be very embarrassed to even show up at a beach in even the most modest swimsuit attire.
They are often plagued with the thoughts that they are not up to acceptable fitness standards. Therefore, they might isolate themselves and shut them selves out.
They are often very depressed and are unable to even have meaningful friendships with peers. They might never adjust socially as well as other people their age-their peers and they often are made fun of.
The Solution
You might think that feeling better about yourself starts with how you feel about yourself on the outside. However, it does not. It starts with how you feel about yourself on the inside.
Therefore, along with any exercise or diet plan you create, you also need a mental health plan. This will provide for you a balance sense of self-worth and will be the fastest path to a greater sense of self-worth.
In other words, how you feel about yourself is not entirely about physical appearance. It also is not about how well in shape you may be. However, your physical and mental health may depend upon you losing weight. Therefore, seek whatever avenue you can to better yourself.
